Sheffield’s Snooker History

The eyes of the world are on the Sheffield snooker stage, with the World Snooker Championship well underway at the Crucible (qualifiers run from 25 February to 10 March, with the finals from 18 April to 4 May).  Sheffield has been the home of the Championship since 1977, and for 17 days every year more than 1000 people from all over the world flock to the city to watch the prestigious tournament, boosting the city’s coffers by £2.5 million last year alone.
